Blue Bird Recalls School Buses Due to Fuel Line Corrosion Risk

Blue Bird is recalling 2017-2023 Vision school buses with specific LPG conversion systems because fuel line corrosion may cause leaks and fire.

What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel line corrosion) that creates a significant risk of fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain 2017-2023 Blue Bird Vision school buses. The recall affects vehicles equipped with Roush fuel return lines included in GEN 4 and GEN 5 LPG Conversion Systems that were sold or registered in 24 specific states and Washington D.C. The defect involves zinc plating on the fuel return line that may break away when contacted by road debris. This exposure causes two dissimilar metals on the fuel line to contact each other and corrode.

A corroded fuel line can leak fuel, which increases the risk of a fire. Dealers will replace the fuel return lines free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on May 24, 2023. Owners may contact Blue Bird's customer service at 1-478-822-2242 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
