Land Rover Recalls 2020 Range Rover Evoque for SRS Warning Light Software Defect
Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 2020 Range Rover Evoque vehicles because incorrect software may cause the airbag warning light to malfunction, potentially masking actual system failures.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical component (airbag system) where a software defect could mask a failure, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. This fits the 'High' criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque vehicles. The recall involves 18,824 vehicles where the supplemental restraint system (SRS) warning light software is programmed incorrectly. This defect may cause the warning light to malfunction and intermittently illuminate.
An SRS system warning light that falsely illuminates could prevent the detection of an actual air bag system failure. This increases the risk of injury in the event of a crash if the airbag system is not functioning correctly.
Dealers will update the restraints control module (RCM) software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 23, 2022. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
