Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2015-2020 Ford Transit vehicles. The recall addresses a potential issue where an incorrect driveshaft torsional damper service kit may have been installed. This installation error can allow the damper shield to contact the parking brake cable, which may result in parking brake failure.
Parking brake failure can lead to unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash. The defect is specifically related to the passenger side parking brake cable and its clearance relative to the damper shield.
Dealers will replace the passenger side parking brake cable with a cable that provides sufficient clearance to the damper shield, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on September 24, 2021, and final owner notification letters were mailed on March 14, 2022.
