2020-2021 Braxton Creek Travel Trailers Recalled for Stove Gas Leak Risk
Braxton Creek is recalling 2020 and 2021 LX and BX travel trailers with Dometic cooking stoves due to an overtightened saddle valve bolt that can damage the o-ring seal and cause a continuous gas leak, posing a fire risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a risk-of-harm product (gas leak in cooking appliance) with no reported injuries or illnesses. The potential hazard (fire) is significant but theoretical, placing it at High severity per the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Braxton Creek RV is recalling certain 2020 and 2021 LX and BX travel trailers equipped with Dometic R1731, R2131, and S31 3-burner cooking stoves. The saddle valve securing bolt on these stoves may be overtightened at the manufacturing stage.
When the bolt is overtightened, it can damage the o-ring seal on the saddle valve. This damage allows a continuous gas leak from the stove's gas connection. A continuous gas leak significantly increases the risk of a fire.
The recall affects approximately 140 units. Owners of affected trailers should stop using the cooking stove until the remedy has been applied.
Braxton Creek will install a remedy kit containing gaskets, washers, thread locker bolts, and two round orange labels at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 2, 2021. Owners can contact Braxton customer service at 1-260-768-7932 to schedule the repair. Additional information is available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or at www.nhtsa.gov.
