Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2018 GLE 350, GLE 400, and AMG GLE43 vehicles equipped with Continental tires. The recall involves 2,529 vehicles. The defect is that the affected tires were cured for too long during production.
Over-cured tires may develop a break in the sidewall, resulting in sudden air loss or belt edge separation which could lead to tread or belt loss. Either condition can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tires and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 23, 2021. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
