What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm vehicle safety defect involving tire integrity. Over-cured tires may develop sidewall breaks or belt separation that could result in sudden air loss and loss of vehicle control. However, no injuries or deaths have been reported, making this a High-severity theoretical hazard rather than Severe.
Plain-English summary
American Honda Motor Co. is recalling certain 2021 Honda Pilot vehicles equipped with Continental CrossContact LX Sport 245/50R20 tires. The affected tires have DOT serial number A376 D3K9 2920 and mold numbers S-421920 or S-421921. Approximately 214 vehicles are affected.
The tires may have been cured beyond specification limits during manufacturing. Over-cured tires can develop a break in the sidewall or experience belt edge separation, either of which can cause sudden air loss or tread/belt loss.
A loss of tire integrity can lead to loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of crashes or injury. Owners should contact their dealer immediately if they believe their vehicle is affected.
Honda will notify owners and dealers will replace the affected tires free of charge. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
