2021 Volkswagen Atlas Tires Recalled for Over-Cure Defect
Volkswagen is recalling certain 2021 Atlas and 2020-2021 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles with potentially over-cured Continental Cross Contact LX Sport tires. Over-cured tires can cause sidewall breaks or tread separation, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural vehicle defect in tire safety. The over-cured tires can cause sidewall breaks or tread separation, both of which increase the risk of a crash. Though no injuries or crashes have been reported, the confirmed defect in a critical safety component justifies a Severe classification.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2021 Atlas and 2020-2021 Atlas Cross Sport vehicles equipped with Continental Cross Contact LX Sport tires (size 255/50 R 20 105 T) that may have been over-cured during manufacturing.
Over-cured tires can develop sidewall breaks or allow the tread to separate from the tire. Either condition causes a sudden loss of tire pressure or tread separation, both of which increase the risk of a crash.
This recall affects 760 vehicles. Owners will be notified by Volkswagen, and dealers will inspect the DOT date code and mold number on each vehicle's tires to determine if replacement is necessary.
