Forest River Recalls 2018-2019 Motorhomes and Buses for Reversed Camera Image

Forest River is recalling 2018-2019 motorhomes, work trucks, and shuttle buses because backup camera images may display in reverse, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the defect increases the risk of a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2018-2019 Orion, Freelander, and Leprechaun Class C motorhomes, Rockport work trucks, Berkshire Ultra Coach, and StarCraft shuttle buses. These vehicles are equipped with ASA Electronics back up mirror-monitors, model number VOM74MM.

The affected displays may revert to factory default settings, causing the camera image to appear reversed. If the monitor displays the image in reverse, the driver may unintentionally turn the opposite direction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Forest River has notified owners, and dealers will install a harness/relay/capacitor module free of charge. The recall began on April 8, 2019. Owners may contact Forest River customer service, Rockport, or Berkshire/StarCraft support using the phone numbers provided in the official notice, or contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
