What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the missing markings increase the risk of a crash, but no specific injuries or fatalities have been reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
Michelin North America, Inc. is recalling certain CrossClimate+ tires in size 225/60R17 103V XL with DOT date code 4618. These tires are not marked with the required UTQG treadwear, traction, or temperature gradings. Additionally, the “DOT” certification symbol preceding the Tire Identification Number (TIN) has not been molded into the designated outboard and inboard sidewalls. As a result, these tires fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 139.
Without the proper markings, the tires may not be used in the appropriate driving conditions, which increases the risk of a crash. The recall is expected to begin on January 30, 2020.
Michelin will notify owners, and dealers will replace the tires free of charge. Owners may contact Michelin customer service at 1-866-324-2835 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
