Pierce Emergency Vehicles Recalled for Water Pump Valve Defect

Pierce is recalling 2015-2016 emergency vehicles because corroded rings may cause pressure relief valves to open, reducing water pressure for firefighting.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where the defect could hinder firefighting efforts and increase the risk of injury, but no specific injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.

Plain-English summary

Pierce Manufacturing is recalling certain 2015-2016 Arrow XT, Enforcer, Quantum, Saber, Velocity, and Commercial emergency vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with Hale pressure relief valves in the water pumps used for firefighting.

Rings securing the valves may corrode over time after exposure to water. This corrosion can cause the ring to fail, allowing the pressure relief valve to open. If this occurs, the water pressure available for firefighting is reduced, which may hinder firefighting efforts and increase the risk of injury.

Dealers will install a remedy kit free of charge to correct the issue. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 or Hale Products at 1-800-533-3569. The recall began on February 9, 2018.
