Hale Recalls Kubota Diesel Pumps Due to Wiring Defect

Hale Products Inc is recalling Kubota Diesel Powered Portable Pumps because improper wiring may prevent warning lamps from illuminating, increasing the risk of injury if the engine fails.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically a failure to warn that could lead to engine failure and increased risk of injury during fire containment.

Plain-English summary

Hale Products Inc (Hale) is recalling certain Kubota Diesel Powered Portable Pumps, part number 200779, revisions A through C. The recall affects 356 units. These pumps may be improperly wired, which can cause the Oil Pressure and Temperature warning lamps to fail to illuminate when needed.

If the warning lamps are not operable, the user may not be warned that there is a problem with the pump's engine. Failure of the pump's engine may inhibit the ability to contain a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Hale will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased the pumps, and dealers for those manufacturers will reverse the wires leading to the warning/indicators or provide a plug-in wire harness, free of charge. The recall began September 9, 2018. Owners may contact Hale customer service at 1-800-533-3569. Hale's number for this recall is SB-166.
