Hyundai Sonata Seat Belt Linkage Recall for Detachment Risk
Hyundai is recalling 2011-2015 Sonata and Sonata Hybrid vehicles previously repaired under a prior campaign because seat belt linkages may detach from pretensioners, increasing injury risk in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where seat belt linkages may detach, preventing proper occupant restraint in a crash and increasing the risk of injury.
Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles that were previously repaired under recall campaign 17V-152. The recall involves a defect where the seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.
If the seat belt linkage detaches from the seat belt anchorage, it cannot properly restrain the occupant in the event of a crash, which increases the risk of injury. The recall began on November 6, 2017.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will verify the connection between the seat belt linkage and the pretensioner and install a warning label to prevent future detachment. This repair is free of charge. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
