Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Sonata and Sonata Hybrid vehicles equipped with the panoramic sunroof option. The recall covers Sonata vehicles manufactured between May 28, 2014, and March 18, 2016, and Sonata Hybrid vehicles manufactured between December 8, 2014, and August 18, 2015. A total of 62,811 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The defect involves a bonding issue with the sunroof wind deflector. Due to this issue, the sunroof panel may detach from the vehicle while driving. If the sunroof detaches, it could become a road hazard, which increases the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will repair the wind deflector anchor plate free of charge. The recall began in December 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151.
