Brenner Recalls 2015-2017 Liquid Tank Trailers Due to Brake Defect

Brenner is recalling 2015-2017 Liquid Tank trailers because improperly machined spring brake valves may delay braking, increasing the risk of the trailer rolling away.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake system) that explicitly increases the risk of a crash or injury, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Brenner Tank, LLC is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Liquid Tank trailers manufactured between March 14, 2013, and March 30, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with certain Bendix SR-5 spring brake valves that may have been improperly machined.

The defect may cause a delay in the application of the spring brakes while parking. If the spring brakes are delayed, the trailer may roll away after it has decoupled from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The remedy for this recall is still under development. An interim notice was sent to owners on August 22, 2016. Owners may contact Brenner Customer Service Department at 1-800-558-8265 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
