KYMCO USA is recalling certain model year 2016 K-Pipe motorcycles manufactured between March 1, 2016, and May 25, 2016. The recall affects 340 vehicles. In the affected models, the gear shift pattern was assembled in a reverse sequence compared to the standard setup. As a result, these motorcycles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 123, "Motorcycle Controls and Displays."

If the motorcycle shifts opposite to other motorcycles, a rider may be confused and may select the wrong gear. This error can adversely affect control of the motorcycle and increase the risk of a crash.

KYMCO will notify owners, and dealers will repair the motorcycles free of charge. The recall began on July 13, 2016. Owners may contact KYMCO customer service at 1-888-235-3417.
