Triumph Recalls 2016 Street Twin Motorcycles Due to Fuel Leak Fire Risk

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (wiring insulation damage) that creates a significant fire hazard, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Triumph Motorcycles America, LTD. is recalling certain model year 2016 Street Twin motorcycles manufactured between September 7, 2015, and November 21, 2015. The recall involves 5,939 vehicles.

The defect involves the wiring in the fuel tank that powers the fuel pump. The insulation on this wiring may be damaged, allowing fuel to enter the wiring and travel down the harness outside of the tank. This can cause fuel to drip from the connector at the main harness. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source, such as an electrical short, increases the risk of a fire.

Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel pump harness and replace it as needed based on its batch number, free of charge. The recall began in April 2016. Owners may contact Triumph customer service at 1-678-854-2010 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
