What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Plain-English summary
Waterous Company is recalling certain Split-Shaft Transmission Shift Units manufactured between April 9, 2015, and April 20, 2016. These units are installed in emergency response vehicles and allow the operator to select whether the transmission sends power to the vehicle's wheels or to an add-on unit, such as a water pump used for fighting fires.
A component within the shift unit may be damaged, which could result in the operator being unable to switch the power output. If the power output cannot be changed, a fire truck may be unable to pump water to aid in extinguishing a fire upon arrival at the scene, increasing the risk of injury.
Waterous will notify the vehicle manufacturers that purchased these shift units and will work with them to remove, repair, and reinstall the units free of charge. The recall began on July 22, 2016. Owners may contact Waterous customer service at 1-651-450-5067 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
