Newmar Recalls 2016 Bay Star and Canyon Star RVs for Shift Cable Defect

Newmar is recalling 93 model year 2016 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport, and Canyon Star vehicles because the transmission shift cable may allow shifting out of park without applying brakes.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (transmission shift cable) that allows the vehicle to move unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.

Plain-English summary

Newmar Corporation is recalling certain model year 2016 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport, and Canyon Star vehicles manufactured between July 8, 2015, and September 23, 2015. The recall involves 93 vehicles affected by an incorrect shift cable bracket and improper shift cable adjustment.

Due to this defect, the vehicles can be shifted out of 'PARK' without the driver applying the brakes. If the vehicle is shifted into reverse without the brakes being applied, it may unintentionally move, which increases the risk of a crash.

Newmar will notify owners, and Ford dealers will replace the transmission shift control bracket and adjust the transmission shift cable free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2015. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. The recall number is 15S25.
