Grand Design is recalling 2014-2016 Reflection fifth-wheel trailers because some have axles rated lower than required, risking overload and crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (axle rating) that can lead to axle or tire failure and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Grand Design RV, LLC is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Reflection fifth-wheel trailers manufactured between September 5, 2013, and June 30, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been manufactured with axles rated to 5,200 lbs. instead of the 6,000 lbs. specified in the design and listed on the Certification Label. This discrepancy means the vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
The inaccurate axle rating may lead users to overload their trailers. Overloading can result in axle or tire failure, which increases the risk of a crash. The recall affects 1,721 vehicles.
Grand Design will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the trailers and replace any axle rated to only 5,200 lbs. with an axle rated to 6,000 lbs. free of charge. The recall began on September 10, 2015. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-8000 ext. 2015. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910004. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov.
