Tracker Recalls 2016 Trailstar Tahoe Boat Trailers for Incorrect Tires

Tracker is recalling 2016 Trailstar Tahoe boat trailers because they were built with under-rated tires that may fail under load, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tire load rating) that explicitly increases the risk of a crash, but the source text does not report any fatalities or serious injuries, placing it in the High severity category.

Plain-English summary

Tracker Marine L.L.C. is recalling certain model year 2016 Trailstar Tahoe boat trailers, models 400, 450, 500, and 550. The affected units were manufactured between March 23, 2015, and June 24, 2015. A total of 346 trailers are affected by this recall.

The defect involves the installation of load range "C" tires instead of the specified load range "D" tires. This configuration causes the trailers to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110 regarding tire selection and load carrying capacity. If the trailer exceeds the load rating of the installed tires, the tire may suddenly fail, which increases the risk of a crash.

Tracker will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wheels with load range "C" tires for wheels with the correct load range "D" tires at no charge. Owners may contact Tracker customer service at 1-417-873-4555. Tracker's number for this recall is TS-0031. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
