What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (door latches) that can lead to occupants falling out of the vehicle or increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Range Rover vehicles manufactured between July 26, 2012, and March 9, 2015, as well as 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles manufactured between February 18, 2013, and March 5, 2015. The recall involves a total of 65,372 vehicles.

The defect involves the door latches, which may cause the doors to unlatch unexpectedly while the vehicle is in operation. If a door unlatches, the resulting distraction may increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a vehicle occupant who is not wearing a seatbelt may fall out of the vehicle, increasing their risk of injury.

Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the keyless entry software to correct the issue free of charge. The recall began on August 6, 2015. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
