Crane Carrier Recalls 2008-2015 Trucks Due to Engine Fire Risk
Crane Carrier is recalling 630 model year 2008-2015 COE, LDT2, and LET2 trucks because a vent tube defect may allow engine oil to contact hot surfaces, increasing fire risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (vent tube detachment) that creates an increased risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating.
Plain-English summary
Crane Carrier Company is recalling certain model year 2008-2015 COE, LDT2, and LET2 trucks manufactured between February 25, 2008, and May 20, 2015. The recall affects 630 vehicles equipped with certain Cummins Westport ISL G engines.
The defect involves excessive engine crankcase pressures that may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather. This detachment may allow engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces, which increases the risk of a fire.
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Crane Carrier. Dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogram the electronic control module (ECM) with software that adjusts engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2015. Owners may contact Crane Carrier customer service at 1-918-836-1651 or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357.
