Starcraft Transit Buses Recalled for Potential Fire Risk

Starcraft is recalling 2006-2015 transit buses because a loose electrical connection may cause overheating and fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical connection) that explicitly increases the risk of a vehicle fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Starcraft Bus is recalling certain model year 2006-2015 Allstar, Starlite, Starquest, and Senator II transit buses. These vehicles were manufactured between June 20, 2006, and February 17, 2015, and are built on a GM chassis. The recall affects 110 vehicles equipped with specific Trans-Air add-on compressor mount kits installed by Trans-Air personnel.

The defect involves the power distribution terminal strip, which may not have been properly reconnected after the compressor installation. If the connection is poor or loose, the strip may arc or overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Starcraft will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the power distribution terminal strip connection and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on August 17, 2015. Owners may contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-348-7440 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
