Daimler Buses North America (DBNA) is recalling certain model year 2007-2012 Orion VII natural gas-powered transit buses manufactured between January 1, 2007, and October 1, 2012. The recall involves 455 vehicles.
The defect involves excessive engine crankcase pressures that may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather. This detachment may allow engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces, which can increase the risk of a vehicle fire.
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of DBNA. Dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogram the electronic control module (ECM) with software that adjusts engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures.
