Coachmen Prism Recalled for Incorrect Door Component Installation
Forest River is recalling 2015 Coachmen Prism RVs because an incorrectly installed door component may make doors harder to open after a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where a component may fail to function correctly in a crash, increasing the risk of injury, but no injuries or deaths have been reported.
Plain-English summary
Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2015 Coachmen Prism recreational vehicles built on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. The affected vehicles were manufactured between July 1, 2014, and October 14, 2014. A total of 378 units are included in this recall.
The recall addresses a defect where the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb to facilitate door opening after a severe frontal impact, may have been installed incorrectly. If a vehicle with this defect is involved in a severe frontal crash, greater force may be required to open the doors, which increases the risk of injury.
Sprinter dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge and correct it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began in March 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0437 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
