Newmar Recalls 2014-2015 King Aire and Essex Vans for Brake Valve Defect

Newmar is recalling 98 model year 2014-2015 King Aire and Essex vehicles because a damaged valve diaphragm may reduce air pressure, potentially compromising braking performance.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that explicitly increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Newmar Corporation is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Newmar King Aire and Essex vehicles manufactured between December 9, 2013, and December 16, 2014. The recall involves 98 vehicles equipped with specific Wabco Quick Release Valves with Double Check.

In the affected valves, the rubber diaphragm may be damaged by sharp edges on the valve seat ribs. This damage can reduce the available air pressure in the air tanks. Reduced air pressure levels may reduce braking performance and/or cause the parking brakes to reapply, increasing the risk of a crash.

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the valve free of charge. The recall began on February 26, 2015. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
