What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (weld failure) that can lead to loss of torque and increased risk of a vehicle crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Dana Driveshaft Manufacturing, LLC is recalling certain commercial vehicle lightweight driveshafts, model SPL250, sizes 1610-2200 or 2220-2830. These units were manufactured between January 2, 2013, and June 30, 2013.
In the affected driveshafts, the welded bond between the driveshaft and the rear yoke may fail. This failure can lead to slippage between the components and potentially result in a loss of torque to the rear wheels. If this occurs, the vehicle operator may be unable to move the vehicle or may experience deceleration while in motion, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash.
Dana will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driveshafts free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Dana customer service at 1-419-887-3000. This recall is an expansion of recall 14E-050.
