Winnebago Recalls Three Motorhomes Due to Wheelchair Lift Platform Crack Risk

Winnebago is recalling three specific motorhomes equipped with Ricon wheelchair lifts because the platform side plates may crack, posing an injury risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (wheelchair lift) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria for potential injury without confirmed incidents.

Plain-English summary

Winnebago Industries, Inc. is recalling one model year 2008 Aspect WF726A coach, one model year 2010 Vista WFE32K coach, and one model year 2012 Vista WFE36D coach. These vehicles are equipped with specific Ricon Corporation wheelchair lifts (models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, or S5510). The recall addresses a defect where the platform side plate of the wheelchair lift may crack.

If the platform side plates crack, the lift platform can separate from the lift and rest against the vehicle's lift door. When the doors are opened, the platform may fall out, increasing the risk of injury to the lift operator.

Winnebago will notify owners to take the coaches to a Ricon dealer or service center to install supplemental platform support bumpers. Any platform that has already started cracking will be replaced free of charge. The recall began in October 2014. Owners may contact Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884 or Winnebago customer service at 1-800-537-1885.
