Jerr-Dan Recalls Ford Super Duty Trucks Due to Fire Risk

Jerr-Dan is recalling 2009-2014 Ford F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks modified with specific PTO assemblies. Oil leaks from the PTO pressure switch may soak the exhaust thermal blanket, increasing fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where oil leaking onto an exhaust thermal blanket creates an increased risk of fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Jerr-Dan Corporation is recalling certain model year 2009-2014 Ford F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, and F-550 Super Duty chassis that were modified by Jerr-Dan and equipped with certain Muncie Power Products PTO Assemblies. The recall involves 76 affected vehicles.

In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket covering the exhaust. The leaking oil may soak into the thermal blanket, which, when combined with heat from the exhaust, may result in an increased risk of fire.

Jerr-Dan will notify owners, and dealers will install a new pressure switch kit that moves away from the exhaust system, free of charge. The recall began in October 2014. Owners may contact Jerr-Dan customer service at 1-800-926-9666 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
