Timpte Recalls 2014-2015 Bulk Commodity Hopper Trailers Due to Suspension Defect

Timpte is recalling 2014-2015 bulk commodity hopper trailers because suspension pivot bolts may fail, potentially causing the axle to separate from the trailer.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where suspension components may separate from the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Timpte, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 bulk commodity hopper trailers manufactured between October 9, 2013, and March 31, 2014. These trailers are equipped with certain SAF-Holland-brand CBX Trailer Suspension Air Ride Axle Systems. The recall affects 634 units.

The affected trailer suspensions have pivot bolts that may fail. If the pivot bolts fail, the suspension and attached axle may separate from the trailer, which increases the risk of a crash.

Timpte will notify owners, and Timpte or SAF-Holland-approved repair shops will replace the defective pivot bolts with new ones free of charge. The recall began on September 18, 2014. Owners may contact Timpte customer service at 1-402-367-3056 or SAF-Holland customer service at 1-888-396-6501. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
