Suzuki Recalls Forenza and Reno Vehicles for Headlamp Fire Risk
Suzuki is recalling 2004-2008 Forenza and 2005-2008 Reno vehicles because heat in the headlamp switch or DRL module could melt components and cause a fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical component melting) that creates an increased risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating.
Plain-English summary
Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Forenza and 2005-2008 Reno vehicles manufactured between September 1, 2003, and July 30, 2008. The recall involves 184,244 vehicles.
In the affected vehicles, heat may be generated in the headlamp switch or daytime running light (DRL) module. This heat could melt the headlamp switch or the DRL module, which is located on the left side of the steering column. If these components melt, there is an increased risk of a fire.
Suzuki will replace the signal switch, add a jumper relay kit, and replace the DRL module in the instrument panel harness. The recall began on October 29, 2014, following an interim letter distributed to owners on July 30, 2014. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
