Diamond Coach Recalls 2009-2010 VIP/PT Transit Buses for Fire Risk

Diamond Coach is recalling 2009-2010 VIP/PT transit buses because voltage spikes may damage door actuator circuit boards, increasing the risk of a fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical fire risk) which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Diamond Coach Corporation is recalling certain model year 2009 through 2010 VIP/PT 2000, 2200, 2500, 2800, 3200, and 3201 transit buses. The recall involves buses equipped with A&M Systems-brand door actuators containing model 3230 circuit boards.

Voltage spikes may damage the electrical components and circuits of the door actuator, causing the circuit board to develop high resistance. This high resistance may cause the board to overheat, which increases the risk of a fire.

The recall began in March 2014. Dealers will replace the affected circuit boards free of charge. Owners may contact Diamond Coach Corporation at 1-800-442-4645 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
