Gulf Stream Recalls 2013 RV Trailers Due to Awning Motor Defect

Gulf Stream is recalling 2013 RV trailers because power awning motor screws may shear, causing the awning to unfurl unexpectedly and increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury or a vehicle crash is possible, but the source text does not report any specific injuries or fatalities.

Plain-English summary

Gulf Stream Coach, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 Canyon Trail, Sedona, Ridgeline, Kingsport, and Trail Master recreational vehicle trailers. The affected units were manufactured between February 13, 2013, and April 24, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with Weatherpro and 9100 series power awnings.

The recall is due to a design change in the power awning motor assembly that may cause the motor assembly screws to shear unknowingly. If the screws shear, the awning can unfurl unexpectedly while the vehicle is at rest or in transit, which increases the risk of personal injury or a vehicle crash.

Owners are instructed not to drive their vehicles until repairs are performed. Gulf Stream will notify owners, and Dometic staff will replace the affected motors with units of a different design. Owners may contact Gulf Stream at 1-574-773-7761 or Dometic at 1-888-447-0003 for more information.
