Plain-English summary
Recaro Child Safety, LLC is recalling approximately 39,181 Recaro ProSport model 385 child restraints manufactured between June 16, 2010, and January 31, 2013. The recall addresses a defect where the child's head can move excessively when the seat is installed using only the LATCH lower anchors without the top tether. This condition causes the seats to fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213, "Child Restraint Systems."
In the event of a crash, the restraint may fail to protect the child from contacting interior surfaces of the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury. The corrective action involves Recaro providing a label and new instructions to owners, advising them to discontinue use of the LATCH system when the child's weight reaches 40 pounds. The campaign began on September 26, 2014.
