What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel line cracking/loose nuts) that poses a significant risk of vehicle fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain model year 2007 Sterling 360 trucks manufactured between January 25, 2006, and January 22, 2007. These vehicles are equipped with an EPA04 4M50 engine. The recall involves approximately 1,601 vehicles.
The fuel lines on these trucks may crack due to an improper manufacturing process. Additionally, the fuel pipe flare nuts may have been insufficiently tightened. A cracked fuel pipe or loose flare nut may leak fuel, which could result in a vehicle fire if an ignition source is present.
Daimler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel lines and tighten or replace them as needed, free of charge. The safety recall began on February 5, 2013. Owners may contact Daimler Trucks at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
