Polaris Recalls 2012-2013 Victory Motorcycles Due to Throttle Cable Nut Defect
Polaris is recalling 2012-2013 Victory motorcycles because throttle cable retention nuts may not have been torqued correctly, which could interfere with throttle function and increase crash risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (throttle cable retention) that explicitly increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Polaris Industries, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Victory motorcycles manufactured between January 3, 2012, and August 15, 2012. The affected models include the Boardwalk, Judge, Cross Country, Jackpot, Hammer, Vision, High-Ball, Cross Roads, Hard-Ball, Kingpin, and Vegas.
The recall addresses a potential defect where a torqueing procedure may have been missed on some throttle cable retention nuts. If the nuts are not torqued correctly, the retention nuts closest to the throttle body can become dislodged. This interference with the throttle function increases the risk of a crash.
Victory will notify owners, and dealers will correctly torque the fasteners free of charge. The safety recall began on October 4, 2012. Owners may contact Victory consumer service department by calling 1-888-704-5290 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
