Fleetwood RV is recalling 2013 Excursion motor homes because a fastener may abrade the diesel fuel hose, creating a leak and fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fastener interference) that creates a significant fire hazard due to fuel leakage, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Fleetwood RV, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 Excursion motor homes manufactured between March 27, 2012, and July 24, 2012. The recall involves a threaded fastener installed on the turn shaft of the slide-out mechanism. This fastener may come into contact with the diesel fuel fill hose while the turn shaft is rotating.

If the fastener makes contact with the fuel fill hose, it may abrade the hose and cause a leak. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of a fire.

Fleetwood RV will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, shorten the threaded fastener to achieve clearance of the fuel line free of charge. The safety recall began on September 11, 2012. Owners may contact Fleetwood RV owner relations at 1-800-509-3418 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
