Plain-English summary
Collins Bus Corporation is recalling certain model year 2012 Collins, Corbeil, and Mid Bus brand SL, SH, DH, and DE school and multi-function school activity buses. The affected vehicles were manufactured between March 12, 2012, and July 13, 2012. A total of 282 vehicles are included in this recall.
The recall addresses a defect where the metal hydraulic service brake line feeding the right-hand rear service brake assembly may interfere with a body mount assembly. This interference is located at the first body mount position directly ahead of the rear axle on the inboard side of the passenger-side frame rail. If the brake line ruptures due to this interference, it could lead to a loss of brake fluid and brake failure, potentially resulting in a vehicle crash.
Collins will notify owners, and dealers will repair the buses free of charge. The safety recall was expected to begin in August 2012. Owners may contact Collins at 1-800-533-1850 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
