The brake system check valve was installed incorrectly on these units, causing a delay in brake application. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121, "Air Brake Systems." The delay in applying the trailer brakes increases stopping distance, which increases the risk of a crash.
