What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that increases stopping distance and crash risk, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company is recalling certain model year 2013 Utility VS2DX dry vans manufactured between May 16, 2012, and June 13, 2012. The recall involves 16 affected vehicles.

The brake system check valve was installed incorrectly on these units, causing a delay in brake application. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121, "Air Brake Systems." The delay in applying the trailer brakes increases stopping distance, which increases the risk of a crash.

Utility has already notified owners and retrofitted the affected vehicles free of charge. Therefore, a separate owner notification notice will not be issued for this campaign. Owners may contact Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company at 1-626-854-7215 for more information.
