Fisker Karma Recall: High-Voltage Battery Hose Clamp Defect
Fisker is recalling 2012 Karma vehicles because incorrectly positioned hose clamps in the high-voltage battery could cause a coolant leak and potential fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The source explicitly states that the defect could result in a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural vehicle defects involving fire risk.
Plain-English summary
Fisker is recalling certain model year 2012 Fisker Karma passenger cars manufactured between September 22, 2011, and January 20, 2012. This recall is an expansion of a previous safety recall (11V-598) and involves 19 affected vehicles.
The defect involves certain hose clamps within the high-voltage battery that may have been positioned incorrectly during assembly. If positioned incorrectly, the battery compartment cover could interfere with the hose clamps, potentially causing a coolant leak from the cooling hoses. If coolant enters the battery compartment, an electrical short could occur, possibly resulting in a fire.
Owners will be notified and instructed not to charge or drive the vehicle. Owners should contact an authorized Fisker dealer to arrange for the vehicle to be transported directly to a repair facility. The repair facility will replace the high-voltage battery with a new part free of charge. The safety recall began on May 30, 2012.
