2023-2024 Fisker Ocean recalled for sudden loss of drive power

A battery management system failure in 2023-2024 Fisker Ocean vehicles can cause sudden loss of drive power. Fisker will replace the affected pumps at no cost.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the battery management system that can cause sudden loss of drive power while driving, significantly increasing crash risk. Although no accidents or injuries have been reported to date, the defect itself poses a concrete and substantial safety hazard.

Plain-English summary

Fisker Group Inc is recalling all 2023-2024 Ocean vehicles due to a defect in the battery management system (BMS). A communication failure with the cabin electric water pump can prevent the BMS from functioning properly.

When this failure occurs, the BMS may enter limp mode, cutting off drive power to the vehicle. This sudden loss of drive power significantly increases the risk of a crash. The recall affects 7,545 vehicles.

Owners should contact Fisker customer service at 1-844-347-5371. Fisker will replace the affected pumps free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 19, 2024.

For more information, consumers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
