Roadclipper Recalls 2012 Fleetneck Trailers with Brake Actuator Defect
Roadclipper is recalling certain 2012 Fleetneck trailers because a defective electric/hydraulic brake actuator pump may fail, increasing the risk of a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake actuator) that can result in the loss of braking effort and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Roadclipper Enterprises, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012 Fleetneck trailers equipped with a Dexter Axle brand electric/hydraulic (E/H) brake actuator pump. The affected models include the FMAX212L30X102, FMAX210L40X102, FMAX212L40X102, FMAX212L33X102, FMAX212L32X102, and FLT212L25X102.
The recall is due to a manufacturing defect where the E/H brake actuator pump may not have been properly heat treated. This condition can cause premature wear of critical components, rendering the unit inoperable. Since the actuator provides braking power to the trailer brakes, failure can result in the loss of braking effort, increasing the risk of a crash.
Roadclipper has notified the owners of the affected trailers. Dexter Axle dealers will replace the actuators free of charge. Customers may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.safercar.gov for more information.
