MO Trailers Recalls 2011 39 VS and 41 VS Trailers for Brake Defect

MO Trailers is recalling 2011 39 VS and 41 VS trailers because improperly heat-treated brake actuator pumps may fail, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake actuator failure) that can result in the loss of braking effort and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

MO Trailers Corporation is recalling three model year 2011 39 VS and 41 VS trailers equipped with electric/hydraulic (E/H) brake actuator pumps. Two additional affected actuators were sold as retail parts. The recall addresses a defect where some of these pumps may not have been properly heat treated.

This condition can cause premature wear of critical components in the pumps, which can render the unit inoperable. Since the E/H brake actuator provides braking power to the trailer brakes, failure of the actuator can result in the loss of braking effort by the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.

MO Trailer notified the owners of the affected actuators on March 26, 2012. Owners may contact MO Trailer at 1-574-533-0824 for more information. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit safercar.gov.
