Plain-English summary

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. is recalling certain accessory all-season floor mats sold for use in model year 2012 and 2013 Mercedes-Benz ML550, ML350, and AMG ML63 vehicles. The recall affects 8,879 units. The defect involves the floor mats not fully conforming to the vehicle's floor plan, which may reduce clearance between the mat and the gas pedal.

This interference could prevent the gas pedal from retracting, causing the vehicle to not decelerate as expected when the driver lifts their foot from the pedal. This condition increases the risk of a crash. If the pedal becomes trapped, steady application of the brakes allows the vehicle to be brought to a stop.

Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and dealers will replace the floor mats free of charge. Until replacement mats are available, consumers are advised to remove their floor mats from the vehicle. The safety recall began on December 21, 2012. Owners may contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
