Micro Bird Recalls 2011 MB II School Buses for Missing Child Seat Anchors
Micro Bird is recalling 48 model year 2011 MB II school buses because lower child seat anchors were not installed during production, potentially compromising child restraint safety.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in child restraint anchorages that poses a risk of injury in a crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products without reported injury.
Plain-English summary
Micro Bird is recalling certain model year 2011 MB II school buses manufactured between August 16, 2011, and September 16, 2011. The recall involves 48 vehicles. During production, two sets of lower anchorages used to restrain portable child seats were not installed. As a result, these buses do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 225, "Child Restraint Anchorages Systems."
If a portable child restraint is installed in the affected vehicles, it will be secured only by the seat belt rather than by both the seat belt and the lower anchorages. In the event of a crash, a child who is not sufficiently restrained could be injured.
Micro Bird will notify owners, and dealers will install the missing lower anchorages free of charge. The safety recall began on January 5, 2012. Owners may contact Micro Bird at 1-819-477-2012 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
