Aultimate Agricultural Trailers Recalled for Non-Compliant Rear Bumpers

Aulick Manufacturing is recalling Aultimate agricultural trailers because the rear bumpers do not meet federal safety standards for underride protection.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where non-compliant bumpers limit underride protection, potentially increasing injury severity in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Aulick Manufacturing, Inc. is recalling certain Aultimate agricultural trailers manufactured between February 5, 2004, and July 1, 2011. The recall addresses rear bumpers that fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 224, "Rear Impact Protection," and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 223, "Rear Impact Guards."

The defect involves the bottom of the bumper exceeding the maximum allowable height from the ground, which limits underride protection. Additionally, the projected vertical height of the rear bumper is less than 100mm. In the event of a crash, a passenger vehicle's bumper may travel under the trailer's bumper, potentially increasing injuries to passengers in the vehicle and decreasing impact load distribution.

The recall began on November 11, 2011. Aulick will replace the rear bumper with one that has the correct placement and compliant height. Owners may contact Aulick at 1-308-632-6197 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
