Gillig Corporation is recalling certain model year 2011 Low Floor buses manufactured between June 13, 2011, and August 12, 2011. The recall affects 291 vehicles equipped with specific TRW TC34023 steering columns.
The defect involves the tooth profile and spacing of the tilt lock teeth on the support bracket, which may be incorrect. This can prevent the tilt lock bar from fully engaging, allowing the steering column to slip from the driver-set tilt location and move upward until it locks in another position. This unintended movement may interfere with the driver's control of the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.
