Plain-English summary
Triumph Motorcycles America Ltd is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 SPRINT GT, TIGER 800, and TIGER 800 XC motorcycles manufactured from June 2010 through June 2011. The recall involves 134 vehicles. The defect is that the top box locking handle is missing a clip on the locking mechanism, which makes it possible for the top box to detach from the motorcycle.
If the top box falls from the motorcycle, it could strike another vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. No injuries or crashes have been reported in connection with this defect.
The safety recall began on September 2, 2011. Dealers will install a new fitment clip part to the top box locking handle spindle to align the rack and pinion mechanism and prevent disengagement. Owners may contact Triumph Customer Service Department at 1-678-539-8782 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
