Plain-English summary
Elgin Sweeper Company is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Megawind-MX sweepers equipped with Tier-III John Deere auxiliary engines. These vehicles were manufactured between February 2010 and April 2011. The recall involves 19 affected units.
Under heavy operating conditions and high auxiliary engine speeds, the fans may fail. The fan blades could separate from the base of the fan, and the blades or debris from the blades could leave the fan housing. Small pieces of fan debris could exit the vehicle through two openings in the exterior. A person performing a repair could be injured by this debris.
Elgin Sweeper will notify owners and install a new radiator fan on a belt-driven pulley and new mounting hardware. This service will be performed free of charge. The safety recall began on May 30, 2011. Owners may contact Elgin Customer Service Department at 1-877-342-5374 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
