Plain-English summary

Strick Corporation is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Dry Freight vans equipped with ArvinMeritor axles. The recall addresses a defect involving spindle nuts and stake washers on ArvinMeritor TL Series trailer axles. Specifically, the stake washer for the nut may be staked in a single location rather than multiple locations, resulting in low or no torque on the spindle nut.

This defect can cause excessive end-play in the wheel-end system, which could progress to a wheel separation and result in a crash. ArvinMeritor is working with vehicle manufacturers to identify and repair the affected vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on February 15, 2011.

Owners may contact ArvinMeritor at 1-248-273-4641 or Strick at 1-260-692-1334 for assistance. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit safercar.gov.
